Bathroom Lighting Ideas
When you enter the bathroom, you want to get a sense that it is your sanctuary - a place for relaxation. Placement of bathroom lights in the right location can make the difference. Countless crucial tasks, such as washing our face, putting on makeup and shaving, are performed in the bathroom, making lighting an integral aspect in planning bathroom dιcor.
Recessed lights and even mini-chandeliers can provide general lighting as they focus the light in a downward direction. These forms of lighting are ideally placed in the center of the bathroom to evenly distribute the light and give enough brightness. Unfortunately, these kinds of lights cast shadows when placed over mirrors. Mirrors are generally found in bathrooms. It is critical that bathroom mirror lights be positioned in the right place to minimize shadows when we look at our face. It is advisable that light be placed above or on either side of the mirror or sink to optimize visibility, reduce shadows and add brightness in performing tasks. Halogen bulbs are recommended because they resemble our natural complexion, especially when applying makeup. An alternative would be to use incandescent bulbs.
For bathrooms with larger spaces, additional lighting is often needed. Also, decorative bathroom lighting can be utilized to accent larger areas. Instances where the bathroom has a tub or a jacuzzi, recessed lights are suggested, but chandeliers are also another option. Chandeliers with dimmers can create an elegant, romantic and relaxing atmosphere while still being practical. Dimmers can be used to control the amount of light to your liking. A small table lamp can be placed on top of the countertop, away from the electrical outlet and water source. This decorative type of lamp adds a homier charm or ambiance to the bathroom. This could also act as a night-light until brighter lights are switched on.
