Home Lighting and Lighting Fixtures
Most places need lighting. Places like art galleries, hotels, museums, offices, restaurants, stores and of course, our homes, require lighting fixtures. There is a wide array of lighting fixtures available to suit the desired functions. Art galleries, hotels, museums, stores and restaurants typically use lighting to set the mood and add some drama according to what type of scene they want to set.
Office lighting should be conducive for working efficiency and alertness. Well-spaced fluorescent lights and some natural light are typically integrated in designing office lighting. A general light is placed, with brighter lights focused on individual work areas. It should be remembered that lights are placed where tasks are performed. Another consideration is minimizing glare as most offices have computers. Properly angulated lamps or pendants are also alternatives.
Just like the abovementioned places, the home requires a mixture of lighting. Home lighting varies with every person's taste and preference. Individuality surfaces when one decorates his or her home, affecting the choice of lighting. Playing with the colors of the light or using dimmers and layering lights can add drama. Focusing lights on key pieces of furniture such as paintings, or using accent lights helps accentuate a space. Crystal chandeliers are normally chosen for the dining room, but these can also be placed in the kitchen and bathroom to add a luxurious touch. Pendants are also an option to accent areas. Lamps can also add that homey charm but are functional at the same time. In the kitchen, a lot of cooking is done, so heat is generated. This means that you don't want your lighting fixtures to radiate a lot of heat.
In placing lighting fixtures, one must always remember that there must be a balance between function and style. The lights chosen should be appropriate to the task.
